Bright Sunshiny Day | Violet [Norton, NB Newborn Photographer]

Like pretty much all parents with young kids, I am terribly behind on several personal projects, including those I consider to be part of my work. My pregnancy photobook, printing off my own photos to hang in my home (and to use as samples to show clients) and, up until today, Violet’s newborn photos. I’m happy to say that I’ve at least got those finished now! 🙂

I took these on Thanksgiving Day weekend…yes, it was almost mid-October, and yes, it was warm enough for her to be without clothing! It was at least 25C on this day, and she slept, warm and happy as can be, the entire time. She was 16 days old, so a bit older than what is preferred for newborns, but for the type of session I was doing (outdoors in a setting that didn’t involve a lot of ‘poses’), it worked out fine.  Her 3 and 6 month sessions will most likely be indoors, so I’m happy that I got to do her newborn shots outside.

I know I may be biased, but I think she’s pretty cute!

I’m going to be printing at least one of these images off to go in her nursery as a 16X24 standout, I’m just not sure which one (I’m leaning towards the one of her on the pink pillow with her head turned up towards the sun, but I also really love the second to last shot of her in the grass.) What do you think?

Be back soon, hope you all had a pleasant weekend!

Our Family/Maternity Session

I promised that I would share more shots from my family/maternity session when I posted my 35 Weeks Bump post about a month ago, so here they are!  As I mentioned before, these were taken by Faye of Faye Kingston Photography (based in the Miramichi area of the province). She and I are somewhat related (she and Dan are first cousins), and I’m so happy that I took the chance of sending her a Facebook message last winter to talk about photography (she has been in business about a year or two longer than I have). I kind of look to her as a ‘colleague’ and now also as a friend, someone I can talk shop with and also get advice from on various aspects of running a business from home. We have similar styles and philosophies on photography and portrait work, so I knew that it would be a good fit for us to get our maternity/family shots done with her. She caught us just being ‘us’, goofs and all (as shown above…it’s not a ‘perfect’ shot by any traditional means, but I love it anyway!)

I had planned on getting some real ‘at home’ shots when Violet was a newborn, but now we may have to wait until she’s a bit older to do our lifestyle shoot with Faye…I can’t wait!  Until then, these shots will soon be on my walls (will share photos when they’re up!)

Enjoy, and thanks for letting me share a bit of my personal life on this blog (I’ve been blogging on my own for about 5 years now, but I find that it’s just as easy to share here as it is on my other blog.)

I’m working on a few more “My Favourites” posts, and finishing up some sessions from October, so I’ll be sure to share those soon!

Until then,

Geneviève

Baby in a Basket | Daniel [Penobsquis, NB Newborn Photographer]

It really does seem like everyone is having babies, doesn’t it? Maybe it’s just my group of friends/acquaintances, or just my age, but in the past 5 years or so it has just been baby after baby after baby…and I love it! This sweet little fellah is my friend Sara’s nephew, Daniel (Danny). The cool thing is that he was actually due the day before my daughter Violet was born, so his momma Amy and I grew our bumps together. Daniel was a bit impatient though and decided to come into the world 4 weeks early, so he and my daughter are actually a month apart (she was born on her due date).  He’s been doing great since his arrival though, and when we got together to do his newborn shoot at a little over 3 weeks old, he was a perfect little model (except for uncrossing his legs to show us his bits at every chance he got, haha).  I got to test out my ‘baby in a basket’ idea and he was perfectly content in there, sleeping as soundly as can be, it was so cute. I’m sharing the full session here, so be sure to check out the sweet new-ness of Danny!

Amy and Sara, I hope you enjoy these shots!

This was my last session in September (and the last one I did before going on Mat Leave), so I’m now only a month behind, yay! Still working away, so if you are waiting for a gallery, it should be coming up soon 🙂

Be back soon,

Geneviève

Personal Project | 35 Weeks [Bump Watch]

Oh my, is this post ever over-due!  About 9 weeks actually 🙂  Anyway, I completely fell off the wagon for this project, but luckily my good friend (and very talented photographer) Faye of Faye Kingston Photography took our family/maternity shots back in the middle of August, so I have a few shots from my 35th week to share. All the images in this post were taken by her.

I must say, it was very strange to be in front of the camera (with a person behind it and not just my timer/remote!), and I’m not sure how great of models we made, but Faye captured some really lovely shots of me/us and I’m so thankful for that. I plan on printing some out as standouts/canvases for our new house, I can’t wait!  It was also really fun to work with another photographer because we could just ‘talk the talk’ and she understood right away when I said I wanted something (I tried not to be too controlling, hopefully Faye was ok with my suggestions!) She had to deal with a really cranky toddler (the 2.5 hour drive up to the Miramichi certainly didn’t help), and two very tired parents who were in the middle of moving into their new house, but she got the job done anyway. Thanks Faye!

I plan on sharing my favourite shots from our family session later, but for now here are some mostly solo shots of me, in all my big bellied glory (have I said how HAPPY I am not to be pregnant anymore?  Well I am. Very.)

(Faye shared her favourite shots from our session on her blog HERE.)

Be sure to check out her WEBSITE and leave her some love, she deserves all the credit for making us look this good!

I have some pretty terrible shots of me at 39 Weeks that I may share, but if not, this is the end of my Bump Watch project. As I mentioned before, I plan on taking all of the images and putting them into a photo book as a keepsake for Violet, once I complete that I’ll be sure to share!

Back to regularly scheduled blogging,

Geneviève

A Rare Sunny Evening | Matt & Stephanie [Garnett Settlement, NB Engagement Photographer]

This post is completely out of order, but I couldn’t wait to share this gorgeous session I had back on the first day of September with Matt and Stephanie. Stephanie had contacted me about a month before inquiring about my wedding services, and after re-scheduling I don’t know how many times due to bad weather (ugh, Summer), we finally got a chance to meet and do their engagement photos. We met out at their cottage on the Fundy Coast, and when I got there I was just blown away by how beautiful it was!! A true photographer’s dream. Matt and Steph were also a photographer’s dream; beautiful, in love, and willing to do anything I wanted 🙂 Stephanie had a few locations picked out, so we spent the evening driving from one place to another, talking about their July 2012 wedding and catching up (oddly enough Stephanie’s fiancé, Matt, went to my high school and we knew each other from soccer, but Steph didn’t realize this until after), and commenting on how PERFECT the weather was (anyone who knows the Fundy Coast knows that it’s usually foggy, rainy, and gray, but on this night the sun was out, there was no breeze and it was super warm…a rare sunny evening indeed!) We started out on some fishing docks, stopped to romp in a few fields (and sustain a few rib injuries, eh Steph?), then headed to their ceremony site on the beach to do a little fishing, and finally finished off at their sweet little cottage. It was a really lovely time.

Matt and Steph, I can’t wait to be part your beach/cottage wedding next year, and in the meantime, I hope you enjoy your engagement photos!

(The photo above cracks me up and was a total fluke…I think that Stephanie was simply taking off her shawl, but Matt looked back at her and with her straps falling off, it looks like she’s giving him a ‘show’. So I edited it to look like one of those old postcards that fisherman would hang in their boats, lol)

On personal note, I want to thank everyone who left comments on my Facebook Page regarding the birth of my daughter Violet on September 23rd…I’m technically on Maternity Leave at the moment but am still working away on sessions from last month and replying to emails, so expect to see me pop up here from time to time in the next few weeks. I have lots of blog posts to catch up on, sessions to edit, orders to finish, and then starting next week I hope to be out shooting again!  Oh how I miss it so.

Be back soon!

Geneviève

Faye - This whole session is awesome – what a gorgeous couple and gorgeous locations. Love them all. Can’t wait to see the wedding pics next summer!
