Personal Project | 13 Weeks [Bump Watch]

I forgot to mention something important in my last Bump Watch post: I WILL be working throughout my pregnancy for as long as humanly possible!  Luckily with Victor I had a great second and third trimester with hardly any issues with my back or joints, meaning I should be ok to continue doing sessions throughout the spring and summer.  I may be pregnant, but my fingers can still press the shutter 🙂 So please, if you are thinking of booking a spring or summer session with me, contact me!

Ok, now that that’s out of the way, here are my shots from Week 13 (I’m showing much earlier this time around, which  means looking a little thicker around the middle sooner than I would like, but as I said before, I’m trying to embrace it and not stress too much…pregnant women are beautiful, I truly believe that, so I should believe it about myself too!)

Personal Project | 12 Weeks [Bump Watch]

If you follow me on Facebook, or Twitter, or my personal blog, then this will not come as new information. However, for those of you who don’t know, my husband and I received quite the shock about 2 months ago when we discovered that we were expecting again. This was not something that we had been expecting or had planned, and we struggled with the idea for a long time (especially me). Having just started my business in March (and having a baby who just turned one year old), I worried about how things would go, but I’ve since decided to just let things come as they may, and to enjoy this pregnancy as much as possible, because it will be the last time I will ever be in this condition again! I’m 16 Weeks along now and just coming out of the dreaded 1st trimester, with its fatigue and nausea. I can now say that I honestly can’t wait for Spring to get here, because it means fresh air and renewal in so many ways!

On the plus side, being pregnant has allowed me the opportunity to work on a photo series for a new package that I’ve been wanting to introduce to my clients. The full details aren’t yet finalized, but in speaking generally, I want to offer a package that includes a photo series of an expectant mother throughout her pregnancy. Depending on the availability of the client, these could be weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly mini-shoots, starting at around 12 weeks (or earlier/later if preferred) and going up until the end of her pregnancy. A photobook with all the images would be created at the end of the series for the client, which makes for a wonderful keepsake and serves as something fun to show your children later on in life.

The great thing about this package is that it’s completely customizable to meet the client’s needs and budget. It’s also creatively flexible, with many different options (for example, in my own personal series, I’m including a weekly letter to the baby, talking a bit about our lives at the moment and about how I’m feeling). I’m also using different sites/outfits for each week, but there’s also the option of using the same location and outfit for each week to really focus on the growing belly, or do a black and white series, or to include props representing each particular week (for example, food cravings in the first trimester), or to include older siblings/pets…the list could go on.

More details will follow as I continue to develop the package (including a proper package name!); however, if this is something you are interested in, please contact me at, or use the contact form in the navigation bar above. I would love the opportunity to photograph another expectant momma (taking self-portraits is much more challenging, and the results aren’t exactly what I would expect if I were shooting someone else). But, seeing as I’m the only available model, I guess I will have to do 🙂

So, without further ado, I present to you Bump Watch 2011, starting with 12 Weeks. (There will be several of these posts over the coming week as I catch up, but starting next week this project will become a weekly post, mixed among my other posts and sessions.)

(Note: This is NOT my original idea. These types of maternity series have been done all over online, and I have been heavily inspired by several of them, in particular Cole’s Maternity series, which is the one that started them all I believe, and by Miss James’ Maternity series, which is where I got the idea to include a letter every week. I think that it’s important to give credit when it’s due, but I also believe that I can take an idea and create my own unique version of it!)

Until next time,

Faye - I love this idea Genevieve…. absolutely love it. And no one is doing it around here!! I would love to chat with you about it sometime – might be something I incorporate into my business maybe. Been thinking of making some changes with packages and such anyways. “chat” soon 🙂 Fantastic work, the blog looks great!

The Looks | Amelia [Sussex, NB Newborn Photographer]

Amelia is another sweet newborn I met earlier this month. She is actually cousins with Aubrie and Clara, who I photographed last year. I aboslutely love getting to photograph entire families (I actually took  photos of their other cousins too, the Bursey girls.)  That’s the fun of living in a small community I guess!

Amelia was one month old when we took these images, and she was as cute as can be.  Her mom, Ashley, brought all sorts of adorable headbands and outfits for her to wear, and I also got to use some of the scarves and girlie things I had lying around.  She was awake for about half of the session, but she did cat nap for us too, so we managed to get the much sought after ‘sleepy’ shots.  The ones of her wrapped in the green scarf were the last ones we took, and by that point she was out like a light.  I guess she had had enough of us treating her like a doll, haha…can you blame us though, with those gorgeous eyes and full pink lips!  She’s going to a beauty, there’s no doubt about it.

Oh, sweetness, pure sweetness.

Things have been a bit quiet around here with the long hard winter we’ve been having, but signs of spring are definitely showing themselves, so I’m hoping to get out soon to take some photos, I don’t know about you but I’m sick of being cooped up inside!  I’m currently working on a long-term project that I’ll be sharing soon, it’s a new package that I want to offer to my clients starting next year, I’m excited to see the response to it!

Until then,

It’s here! [Geneviève Flynn Photography Blog]

Welcome to my new blog!

It’s finally here! After months of designing, editing, re-sizing, writing, reviewing, and scheming, my new blog is ready for the public! I’ve been working really hard for the last little while to get this thing off the ground, and I’m really happy with how everything turned out.  I hope you like it too!

So what will you find here at Geneviève Flynn Photography Blog? Well, most importantly, you will find blog posts with ALL of my client sessions to date. I’ve created an ARCHIVE going all the way back to my first session in June 2010, so there’s a lot to look through (30+ posts to be exact!) Please take a peek through to see a wide variety of sessions which I feel encapsulate my work and my style.

I wanted to make the images the main focal point of this space, so they are BIG, bright, and front and center!  If you are a past client, take a look to find your session and see what I had to say about it 😉  I’ve made it easy to find what you are looking for by including CATEGORIES with each type of session, so you can search that way, or by date.

In the main navigation menu (above), you will find a link to my most RECENT POSTS, the categories and archive links I mentioned above, and a CONTACT  form that you can fill out right here on the blog.  If you have any questions, comments, or are interested in booking a session with me, please feel free to use the form!

More importantly, the main navigation menu is where you will a link to an ‘About me’ page (WHO IS G.?), a brief overview of my style/philosophy on photography (WHAT IS MY ‘STYLE?), a few FAQs about sessions, what to wear, how to pose and more, what people are saying about me and my work (REVIEWS), and a partial 2011 PRICING list (something I know all potential clients are interested to see!)

On the left hand side of the blog you’ll see a few tabs which will bring you to my TWITTER, my FACEBOOK PAGE and link you to the pages I mentioned above.

From time to time I’ll also post some family related stuff (like the photo of my son Victor above), because I know that personally I like to see a bit into the daily lives of others, so you may see Victor, myself, or my husband Dan popping up from time to time.

So that’s it! I’m currently working on my ‘main’ website (flash based), but this is where most of the action will be, so please bookmark me, check back often, and enjoy!

Jacynthe - Félicitations Geneviève !!!

Le site est super beau et facile à naviguer. Beau travail 🙂

Dave - Looks great. Very nicely presented. The pictures look great.

Baby Blue | Nicholas [Sussex, NB Newborn Photographer]

My first session of 2011 was of a sweet newborn baby boy named Nicholas.  His auntie Meghan actually gave his mother a gift certificate for a photo session as a baby shower present (a GREAT gift idea by the way, contact me if you are interested in purchasing a gift certificate for Geneviève Flynn Photography! Sorry, shameless plug over).  Anyway, at 23 days old he was the youngest baby I had photographed so far, and  I had a wonderful morning with him and his mom Jodi here at my apartment.  Normally for newborn photography you want the babies to be a bit younger than Nicholas was, so that you can all those ‘sleepy’ shots that moms love so much, but even still, after a lot of coaxing, feeding and rocking, Nicholas fell asleep and we got some sweet sleepy shots of him as well.  I used a large gray cowl that my friend Heather knitted for me as a coccoon/wrap, and Nicholas loved it!  I also had fun using a different editing style for a few of the shots; I enjoy experimenting with the more ‘processed’ looks when appropriate, and newborn photography is definitely one of those areas.

I’m actually working with another newborn (a little girl this time) in a couple of weeks and I’m really excited to do this again! It definitely makes the long winter days a little bit sweeter 🙂

Until then,
