Who is Geneviève?

My name is Geneviève (pronounced with a soft ‘juh-nuh-vee-eh-vuh), but I also go by “G”. I am 30 (eek!), am originally from Sussex, NB but now live just outside town in Norton, NB. We bought our first house in 2011 and are now making a home here in the country.

The story of how I got into photography is not an uncommon one.  From the time I was very young I have always admired art, in particular medieval/Renaissance paintings and frescoes.  I loved the elaborate scenes and images of people/religious figures (what can be considered the first ‘photographs’).  In University, I spent my last semester on exchange in northern Spain and while there, I took hundreds (if not thousands) of photos with my friend’s now-crude point and shoot digital camera. It was there that the first spark was born.  In March of 2008 I got my first DSLR camera and was immediately hooked.  I embarked on a self-portrait challenge and recruited my friends and family as models.  When my son was born in February 2010, I realized how much I enjoyed capturing images of babies and children and began photographing my friends’ children.  An interest turned into a hobby, then turned into a passion (and has now turned into a dream come true). In 2012 I discovered just how much I love shooting people in love (and in particular, weddings), and am currently trying to find the balance between portrait and wedding photography…I wish I could do it all! But, just like with starting up this little business of mine, I will always follow my creative passions.

When I’m not behind the lens, I’m usually at home living a laid-back, somewhat lazy life with my husband (and love of my life) Dan, my 3-year old son Victor, and my 1.5 year old daughter Violet.  I love to travel, craft and be with the ones I love.

I find cemeteries beautiful.

I talk about the weather A LOT (like, a lot).

I’m a self-proclaimed ‘old lady’ and nerd.

Fall is my absolute favourite time of year.

I’m an introverted people person (if that makes sense?)

I speak French and English (and a bit of Spanish).

I’m currently loving Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Mad Men, and Dexter.

I use parentheses a lot when I write.

I had my daughter in the driveway (yeah, ask me about it sometime…)
